Equality is one of the core values upon which the European Union is founded, and equality between women and men is one of the Union’s essential aims. To achieve gender equality, the European Union has adopted an approach of mainstreaming this topic in all policies. In spite of a clear commitment to gender equality as a common goal, as well as the principle of mainstreaming gender equality in all fields, many institutions within the EU do not yet actively follow a systematic policy of mainstreaming gender equality. Figures show a clear gap between the stated commitment to gender equality and the actual situation. The module on institutional transformation describes how gender mainstreaming can be implemented in a public organisation and how already existing approaches to implementing gender mainstreaming can be further developed and advanced.en_US
