The development of this manual has entailed a long process of almost four years of development and piloting (or learning-by-doing). This approach was adopted to ensure that the materials respond to regional and country needs with respect to gender analysis, planning and programming within the health sector. Barbara Klugman and Sundari Ravindran prepared the very preliminary draft of the material. Shelly N. Abdool and Adepeju Aderemi (‘Peju) Olukoya, both of the WHO Department of Gender, Women and Health, coordinated the overall further development of the material and conversion into a more interactive, learning tool in accordance with adult learning principles. The material was developed and piloted in close collaboration with members of the WHO Gender, Women and Health Network in regional and country offices.en_US
