The EU Strategic Framework on Health and Safety at Work 2014-2020 (EU Strategic Framework) was adopted on 6 June 2014. It was intended to ensure that the European Union (EU) continues to play a leading role in promoting high standards for working conditions both within Europe and internationally. The EU Strategic Framework identified the following three major challenges facing the EU with regard to improving health and safety in the workplace: The need to improve implementation of existing health and safety rules, in particular by enhancing the capacity of micro and small enterprises (MSEs) to put in place effective and efficient risk prevention strategies. The need to improve the prevention of work-related diseases by tackling new and emerging risks without neglecting existing risks. The need to consider and take into account the ageing of the EU's workforce.en_US
